Sisir Pesisir (looking for the sea) articulates Gresik (a city in East Java) which feels confused in narrating its identity as a coastal city. Although the history of Gresik is often accumulated in the history of international trade centred on the port even before Giri Kedaton was founded in the 15th century. The port in Gresik has brought together people from China, Arabs, India, Europe and others.

For the generation that was born after the glory days until the founding of Indonesia, perhaps we can still see the residue of Gresik's glorious coastline in the past. But now, when the port has become industrial traffic, which means that the access of the Gresik community to the sea is also limited, the question that must be asked is: where is the relationship between the Gresik people and the sea? Or, what kind of sea imagination will be built when people no longer have memories of the sea?

This exhibition is carried out through a study of Gresik's history to see the social spectrum of this region, as well as a critical view of how the sea today are only jargon and not something that is experienced.
The exhibition runs from
25 March — 25 April 2023
