The Medicine Book of Pasongsongan is a manuscript on spices and a biography of traditional herbal medicine made by Rukayya and Sudahma, my two grandmothers in Pasongsongan, Sumenep, Madura. This manuscript articulates the notion history of health, knowledge of spices, methods of creating jamu (traditional medicine drinks), and various ways of surviving the threat of disease are owned by every ethnic/local community, with a processing system through their traditional technology. The Medicine Book of Pasongsongan is a medical history in our family. This manuscript was written in Madura using the Arabic alphabet to restore memories of the system of writing knowledge in the past.
